Google Storage Changes

Google recently announced that new storage limits for Google Workspace for Education (formerly known as G Suite for Education) will take effect in July, 2024. Currently, students, faculty and staff have unlimited storage for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. In order to prepare, we ask for everyone to review your current storage usage and delete any unnecessary files in Drive, Gmail, and Photos.
To do this, please complete the following steps:
1. To confirm how much storage you’re using, go to https://drive.google.com/settings/storage.
2. To review and delete large or unnecessary files in Drive, go to https://drive.google.com/drive/quota.
3. To review and delete large or unnecessary files in shared drives, go to https://drive.google.com/drive/shared-drives.
4. Consider deleting Drive content that you may have copied to a shared drive. If a file resides in two locations, it may be consuming twice the storage space.
5. To search for and delete unnecessary or large emails, go to Manage files in your GoogleDrive storage and follow the instructions for Gmail.
Connecticut College students, faculty, and staff have access to G Suite for Education (Google Apps). This includes powerful apps to support email, calendaring, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, websites, and file sharing.
Google Mail (Gmail) - An email client with built-in instant messaging, voice, video chat, tasks, and spam filtering. Your Connecticut College Gmail can be accessed on your smartphone and other mobile devices. View the Gmail Installation and Setup instructions for Mobile Devices. Many of your questions on Gmail can be answered by visiting the Google Mail Help Center.
Google Calendar - You can share your calendar with others, manage multiple calendars, create a calendar to be shared by your team, or do room and resource scheduling. You can also access your calendar on mobile devices. Many of your calendaring questions can be answered by visiting the Google Calendar Help Center.
Google Docs - A web-based application used to create, edit and store documents online. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser. Google Docs is compatible with most presentation software and word processor applications. Many of our students use this as an alternative to buying word processing software. You can find additional information by accessing the Google Docs Help Center.
Google Sheets - A web-based application used to create, modify, and share spreadsheets. Files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection and a web browser. Google sheets is compatible with MS Excel and supports CSV files. Many of our students use this as an alternative to buying spreadsheet software.
